Crowns

We can replace large, worn-out fillings with natural looking , ceramic crowns. These state of the art, high strength crowns will restore dark teeth and eliminate lines at the gum line to provide a completely natural-looking appearance. Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, which is placed on the top of the tooth. Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a procedure such as a root canal. Crowns are also used when decay has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed. Crowns are the ideal restoration when the filling occupies more than about half of the tooth or the tooth is cracked. With new materials now available we can create beautiful results for spaces between teeth, broken or chipped teeth, unsightly, stained or washed-out fillings, permanently discoloured old fillings and even misshaped or crooked teeth.

A tooth must be slightly reduced in size to accommodate a crown. An impression is made of the existing tooth and an impression is made. The impression is sent to a special lab, which manufactures a custom designed crown. In some cases, a temporary crown is applied while the permanent crown is ready. Permanent crowns are cemented in place at a subsequent visit.
